Dear Ms. Pathy:
Our friends at the National Cyberspace Agency have related your concerns to us. Believe me when I say that we share your disdain for the Digital Age. It’s all so cold and meaningless. Ones and zeros. How can we reduce life to ones and zeros? No, computers aren’t for everyone. Look at the trouble they are causing: i.e. an economy based on “information” – what a crock. We used to call it gossip.
That’s why we fight to preserve the true nature of our species. And we’d like you to join us.
Now, we know that mechanical transcription devices are not the same as pens and paper. Believe me when I say that if I could write legibly, I would. But I cannot.
And so my life long love affair with the typewriter. I remember visiting the Typewriter Museum as a small boy. I was constantly in detention because I couldn’t write a legible X. When I saw how clear and, well, book-like the words on paper were from the most rudimentary typewriters, I was hooked. Been hooked ever since.
Now I know you can write legibly. And I admire you for it. But, can you write 132 words a minute? I doubt it.
So, please don’t take this as a criticism, but as a heartfelt request to change your mind and buy a typewriter and keep the flame burning. Believe me when I say that you can get unbelievable deals nowadays. Not like years ago.
Please type me a letter as soon as you can. We’ll be waiting. There are six of us now. You’d be seven.
Sincerely,
Quentin Roote
Executive Secretary
